#71 - Silver
Title: Untitled
Challenge/Prompt: #71 - Silver
Original Fiction
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Author's notes: I have no idea where this came from. Woot, Write or Die. And this comm!
There's usually an attempt at smalltalk, first, muffled and hesitant, no one sure how much is allowed. Awkwardness soon defeats us. We shrug, smile helpless. No point -- we won't speak away from here. And the silver ones don't understand speech, anyway.
Silence hangs. The wooden benches swallow sounds. Sometimes you hear a rustle, a cough.
Eventually, the singing starts: a single clear note like a stone's descent, and then another. A second voice, harmonies building. No one knows what it means. We listen, heads bowed. The music fills us, fills the chapel, echoes into our uneven minds, promising peace.
