Author's Notes:  kinda-sorta-maybe related to #77: Child by the Pyre and #78: Child by the Waters. also, this feels kinda incomplete. :/

The angel makes landfall on black wings, her eyes trailing smoke and her swords blazing fire. Around her, charred corpses and ivory minarets reach for darkening skies.

"Are you here to kill me?"

A boy, old eyes and tattered robes. Trembling hands.

In answer she dims her swords and sheathes her wings. Kneeling, she reaches for him.

"To save you. I promised your mother..."

The child smiles, silver teeth agleam, and kisses her wrist. Sandpaper tongue rasps over new flesh.

"Sweet angel, I made kindling of my mother."

Tongue pierces and child feeds.

The angel weeps, in bliss and horror.
