Fallout
Title: Fallout
Challenge/Prompt: Fall
Original Fiction
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Erikk was lost in his own heart, trying to escape the desolate field of ruin and decay that he had become. His world had been shattered by the explosive finality of her words: I don't love you anymore. In the fallout, despair had settled upon him like a thick blanket of ash, smothering and destroying him.
“He's been unconscious for a week,” the doctor said. “Keeps talking about bombs, and the authorities are asking questions. Any idea what he means?”
“I wouldn't know,” she lied. In his darkness, more bombs fell, and ashes continued to rain down from the sky.

How utterly devestating and human.

Oddly, this piece started out very fluffy and light in the beginning, but it didn't feel correct until it grew into this sort of human devastation piece. I suppose, falling out of love is serious business to me. ;)
