Author's Notes: The world's called Jade; some of my other drabbles are set in the same world.
The young soldier sat down opposite him, removing a leather helm to set beside him. "They call you the exile," he said, almost defiantly - there were many tales, after all, of what the man opposite him had done, sometimes for quite little cause. "But you're home. You can't be an exile anymore."
Taran smiled. He liked seeing a bit of bravado, provided it didn't cross into stupidity. He raised a deceptively young hand in a gesture of dismissal. "Have you heard a saying, 'home is where the heart is'?"
"Yes," frowned the soldier.
"My home is fifteen centuries ago."
