Title: First Smile
Challenge/Prompt: #100 Special
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: John
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Mine
Summary: In comparison to Ted, John smiles all the time.
Author's Notes: Long time no see guys! :D Anyway, this is one of the most important moments in the main story (which is being written from Ted's point of view), and I just wanted to write a little of what it was like for John.

It's a small thing, really, at least proportionally, and the lack of surprise on August's face clearly says that it's not a big deal.

But John's been working for (and watching) August for the better part of a human decade, and this is the first time he's seen Ted smile, even if that smile is a tiny, small thing. Barely a quirk of the lips. Barely a twitch.

It's directed at August, of course, like Ted's attention is most of the time, but that doesn't stop John from coveting it, from yearning, from going to sleep at night and dreaming about it.

So I haven't posted here in a while, and I feel the need to catch up. Here are a few drabbles I managed to squeeze out before school, all in the same 'verse, in varying degrees of quality. :B

Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Ted

Title: Black swan
Challenge/Prompt: #15 Future
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Sarah
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: Some things are impossible to measure.
Author's Notes: Companion piece to Her Father the Writer. According to Nassim Taleb's theory, "black swans" are rare events beyond the realm of normal expectation.

Her father will die when she's eleven, in a car accident on his way to pick her up from school for the first time in her life. Her mother will not let her go to the funeral, will dispose of his belongings with the ruthlessness and fury of a woman scorned by her own child. For years, all Sarah will have left of her father is a picture, behind glass smudged by fingerprints and tears.

But right now Sarah is only ten, and unaware that her father comes into her room every night just to make sure she is still there.

Title: Aging
Challenge/Prompt: #13 Boy
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Jason, Santiago
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: The world doesn't shift on its axis the first time Jason hears the name Micah.
Author's Notes: Despite all the backstory/character outlines I've done for this verse, it surprises me that this is the first time I'm writing (mentioning, rather) anything about Micah. D:

"It'll be easy," Santiago says. "Just make sure he eats and sleeps and doesn't, like, die or something."

"You must be beyond dumb to think I could possibly take care of a child," Jason responds, snorting, putting the phone on speaker as he opens the fridge.

Santiago's laughter echoes in the kitchen. "He's seventeen, Jase, not some little boy."

"To me he is," Jason mutters, feeling older than twenty-eight, and debating the merits of drinking wine at 4:30.

"What was that?"

"Nothing," he answers, closing the fridge. "What's the boy's name?"

"Thank you Jason," Santiago says, his obvious relief making Jason smile. "His name is Micah."

Title: Foreshadowing
Challenge/Prompt: #10 Fate
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Santiago/Jason, Michael
Rating: PG
Warnings: M/M relationship? Other than that, nothing...
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: Michael saw this coming years ago.
Author's Notes: Part of this universe. Which is, imo, getting too big. D:

"I spent the night at Santi's," Jason tells him on a Sunday morning, his voice sounding foreign over the speaker. "He's making some weird Mexican shit for breakfast."

Jason sounds disgusted, but Michael, who has spent his entire life deciphering the sum and all his parts, knows that what Jason isn't saying is more important than the words coming out of his mouth.

He also knows that Jason has never stayed long enough for someone to cook him breakfast.

This has been a long time coming, Michael thinks, closing his eyes, and practicing a smile that doesn't betray his bitterness.

Title: A spot of color
Challenge/Prompt: #9 Edge
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Man, woman
Rating: G
Warnings: Er, death?
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: Till death.
Author's Notes: Am supposed to be working on something else. |: Will redo this later, I think, flesh it out more.

Not five seconds into the video and he can already tell she won't make it, won't be able to drag herself up and over onto to the roof. It's not so much in how she scrambles for a good hold, how her heels fall as she tries to climb the wall, but how her wedding dress flares out with the wind, catches on her feet, as if already preparing for the long descent.

Long after, he remembers the blinding white of her nail-polish, and how the tips of her fingers turned red from how tight she held onto the ledge.

Title: For love may come
Challenge/Prompt: #8 Wish
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Andrew, Maria
Rating: G
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: For love may come and tap you on the shoulder some starless night.
Author's Notes: I was inspired again. xD

"I wished for you," she whispers, looking into his eyes. She raises her hand and cups his cheek, traces the lines around his eyes with her thumb. "You never came."

Andrew leans into her hand, the motion causing his hair to fall across his face, closes his eyes, shutting of the expression on Maria's face: disappointment and... something else he can't name.

"I'm here now," he says, keeping his eyes closed, more out of cowardice than anything else. "I'm not going anywhere."

She withdraws her hand. "I stopped wishing for you a long time ago."

"Yeah," he says, looking at her now. "I know."

Title: If wishes were stars
Challenge/Prompt: #8 Wish
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Sarah
Rating: G
Warnings: None.
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: The star hasn't fallen yet.
Author's Notes: In the same universe as this one.

There's a star in the sky that looks like it's about to fall, and Sarah wishes it hurry up already, she's been waiting for hours. She's laying outside in the backyard, and it reminds her of those rare weekends when she and her dad would go camping in the mountains.

In fact, it feels so much like those times that she calls out, absently: "Daddy!"

Joseph peeks out from between the glass doors of the patio. "What's up, Sarah?"

She looks at him, disappointment running through her like a cresting wave, growing stronger as it goes.

"Nothing," she says. "I wasn't asking for you."

Title: Regret
Challenge/Prompt: #7 Waiting
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: Tony/Michael; Jason
Rating: G
Warnings: Er, (past) boy kissing?
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: It's not regret that he feels.
Author's Notes: A missing scene from a longer story.

Michael wants to punch Jason in the face, plain and simple. God, what was the other man thinking, to kiss him with Michael's boyfriend across the room?

He stands there, rooted to his spot next to the table and schools his features appropriately, waiting for the anger to build up inside of him and for Tony to appear. Michael doesn't know how to act when nothing happens, when all he feels is the echo of an emotion that had died off years ago.

He brings trembling fingers to his lips, and tries not to close his eyes at the memory.

Title: Ghostss
Challenge/Prompt: #6 Spirit
Original Fiction
Characters/Pairings: None
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: Mine.
Summary: Sometimes ghosts and memories are the same thing.
Author's Notes: Just exploring the point of view of an original character from a previous story.

Sarah has a picture of her father hidden under her desk.

Maria finds it one day while cleaning, preparing for her daughter's departure to college and the unknown. It is a nice picture, in a nice frame. Andy is smiling in it, and his honey-colored eyes are shining. It makes her heart ache, and Maria has to grit her teeth and turn away from it, because the urge to burn his picture almost overwhelms her.

"Will I ever be free from you?" she whispers, and tries to remember a time when loving him had come as easily as her guilt.

Title: Bitter
Challenge/Prompt: #5 Blue
Fanfiction: Pokemon
Characters/Pairings: Volkner, Flint→Volkner
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: So not mine.
Summary: Flint should have seen this coming.
Author's Notes: Hahahaha. Ha. |: Don't judge me, world.

"I, what- Volkner?"

Volkner doesn't have the decency to look guilty, standing in front of Flint's fuse-box with Flint's wiring in his hands. "I wanted to thank you, for Platinum."

"Don't bother!" Flint hisses, tearing the wires from Volkner's hands and feeling more than completely uncomfortable with the light in Volkner's eyes.

Volkner stares longingly at the wires. Flint hides them behind him, says, "If you wanna thank me, let's battle, that kid's going after us next."

Volkner smiles widely, and Flint tries not to feel bitter that it wasn't him that lit that fire behind Volkner's endless blue eyes.

Title: Fascinated
Prompt: #4, Drink
Fanfiction: Merlin
Characters/Pairings: Slight Arthur→Merlin
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: So not mine.
Summary: Arthur imagines a next time that will never happen.
Author's Notes: Um, first attempt at writing in the Merlin universe. Be gentle?

Merlin has very blue eyes, and Arthur thinks it's a shame he hadn't noticed them before, because they are indeed very pretty to look at, though it doesn't help that they keep distracting him.

"Maybe next time," Merlin is saying pointedly, frowning. Arthur thinks this is a habit he must break Merlin out of, as it's only serving to make his ears look bigger, really.

"Are you paying attention?" Merlin asks, scowling harder now, and his eyes flash for a second, angry and something else.

Arthur nods, feeling ridiculously disoriented and drunk, and imagines next times that will never happen.
