The sky was dark, and the wind tasted electric.

“You have to choose.”

She was given a paper, the bottom edge curling and bending in the sudden wind. It was headed with LETTER OF RESIGNATION in 40pt Arial. Amelia stepped back.

“It's your choice. Our relationship or your career.”

Back again. Another step. And just like him, Simon pushed forward.

“Which will you choose?”

She felt it against the back of her legs. Metal and cement and fear mixed with uncertainty. What if she chose wrong?

Amelia looked over the edge of the building. It was a 20-story fall.

Simple really. There are only two choices that make up life, you do or you don't. The problem with simplicity is that it usually hides complex consequences. These consequences can lead up to disastrous results, which in turn can lead to your downfall. To do or not to do. But that is what makes it so exciting, the thrill of the mistake. The glory of taking that chance. So I will take that chance. I think I'll fall in love with you. Because falling is the only thing I know how to do. And I do it well.
