Title:The End of the Beginning
Verse/Characters: weimar verse: Markus Schulte
Table: B
Prompt: 56 - embarrassment
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Summary:They tell him the war is over. It doesn't make him happy.
Warnings: none
Author's Notes:Part of weimar verse~ The story of Markus Schulte and his time in the Weimar Republic
Markus stands on the corner of the street, hands stuffed in the pockets of the trousers that are too short, and listens to the ratio telling him that the Great War is over. His cheeks fill with heat and he turns his back on the disbelieving crowd and slips back into the tiny apartment that he shares with his mother, brother and sister and lets the shame wash over him. There is no relief. There is only anger and embarrassment. They were Germany, meant to win the war and be the dominant force in Europe, not surrender like spineless cowards.
