Summary: A mother's heart always knows.
A/N: Dís is the mother of Fíli and Kíli and sister to Thorin.
The letter is from Dain. Dís knows what it will say before she opens it. A mother's heart always knows. But her hands are steady and she does not flinch as she reads the news: her sons Fíli and Kíli are dead, as is Thorin her brother, whom they had followed and defended until the last. They rest in honour, deep beneath the Lonely Mountain, and she holds her head high, for long and bitter had been the years of exile. Only later in private, as she had the day the three rode away, will Dís bow it and weep.
