"It won’t happen again. You have to believe me."

"What makes you think you deserve any of my trust?" He turned away, either unable or unwilling to look at me. He was shutting me out and I was losing him. "You cheated on me. With him. After you told me so many times that you were just friends."

The sinking feeling in my gut only intensified as I tried to explain. "I didn’t mean to. It was an accident--"

"No," he said, with a coldness that I hadn’t expected. "It was a mistake. You don’t seem to understand the difference..."

Title: Deadly Serious
Challenge/Prompt: Serious
Original Fiction
Rating:G
Summary: Court jesters aren't always jesting.

The trickster laughed heartily, and all the room laughed with him because his laugh was infectious. It was a jolly sound that echoed through the throne room, bounced off the walls, and dared anyone to keep a smile from their face.

He'd just threatened one of the nobles brilliantly, and with the flash of a daring smile that had been more of a baring of teeth. No one insulted the woman he loved! The court thought he was joking, though. So they all laughed. It had it's problems, being the court jester.

No one knew when to take him seriously.
