"I want to see my reflection in those windows, Miss Desjardins." Madam Ledoux spoke behind Marie as she scrubbed the windows.
"Yes, madam," Marie answered.
"And I expect those floors to gleam in the sunlight, Miss Beaumont," Madam Ledoux glanced at Evangeline polishing the wood floors.
"Yes, madam," she said with false cheer.
Madam Ledoux sniffed. "I expected much more from you ladies." She walked toward her office. "Agathe and Hermine will come to finish your duties before lunch."
Evangline snickered after she closed her door. "Did you see the look on madam's face when we came through the door?"
