Title: Decisions
Challenge/Prompt: Yesterday
Original Fiction
Characters: Simon Hemming
Rating: G
Summary: The private eye turned down a case yesterday. It was the right decision, wasn't it?

I told her. I mean, it says in my listing, “Cases at my discretion.” There are some things I just can't afford to get involved with. Nothing personal, I just have to look after my career first and foremost. Everyone's got their lines they don't cross and mine is simple: I don't mess with werewolves.

But there's her face, sad and lost and beautiful. There's the empty bench on my way into work where the city's omega usually sleeps. There's the nighttime silence that should be filled with song. She just wants her husband back.

I pick up the phone.

Oh, this is so good! You writing feels very direct, and you've really given your character a distinct voice. I like him, after just a hundred words in his head--what happens next?

Now he really sounds like the world-weary 'tec in the classic 40's style who still wants to help people, and yet... you give us hints we're not in that setting. I'm curious now as to who the 'city's omega' is, and mention of werewolves made me grin. I hope we see more of Mr Hemming in future prompts! : )

Great narrative. I feel that I know a lot about the character, even after just 100 words. I wonder why he doesn't mess with werewolves.
