Title: Gaslight
Challenge/Prompt:
#17 Night
Original Fiction
Rating: PG
Summary: Dingy, yes.  Unsavory, yes.  But safe, safe all the same.
Author's Notes: Same girl as the last one, different day, different place.

Inside, she was safe.

The light from the gas lamps inside the restaurant was dim, and the seats were hard, but it was light enough, light compared to the seemingly unending darkness outside.  A discarded soap box on the table held the salt and pepper shakers; the rest of the establishment was as oddly decorated, but she did not care.

She was safe.  The night dogs, horrible trackers out of nightmarish books, couldn't enter.  Their handlers could, she could deal with that.  She had a gun; she had the coin to pay the owner for getting blood on his floor.

To run.

Title: To Run
Challenge/Prompt: #16 Rain
Original Fiction
Rating:
PG
Author's Notes: This all came from my own head. I don't know who any of the characters are yet.

Too slick to run.

She tells herself that a couple of times, each time looking over her shoulder. The three following her, all in identical tan dusters, continue getting closer despite the downpour.

Splash, splash. A small car cuts her off for a moment before she takes off down the alleyway, in the first direction that comes to her mind. It's all she can do not to stumble, not to fall down. If she falls, she tells herself, they'll get her.

There are three of them to one of her, but the weather at least is on her side.

Title: Hanging
Challenge/Prompt: Blue
Original Fiction
Characters: Nayeli, Phoenix
Rating: PG-13 for lots of reasons.
Warnings: Execution, hanged by the neck until dead.
Author's notes: I really, really don't know what made me come up with this, and within my personal collection of stuff it'll prolly get expanded on slightly. In any case, I put it behind an LJ-cut because some people may not really want to read it. Crit welcome.

Nayeli murmurs a prayer, praying simply to see the sky. )

Title: Paths.
Challenge/Prompt: Fall
Original Fiction
Characters: girl, handlers
Rating: PG
Warnings: None really.  I guess the handlers thing might be mildly disturbing.
Summary: They won't let her fall.

She meanders slowly along the garden path, stumbling over the occasional weeds that are growing in the cracks of the cobblestones.  The weeds are always there, regardless of the constant attention of the complex gardeners.

She is lost in her own thoughts, now, and she only notices that her handlers have been following her when she stumbles once more, and suddenly they're there, catching her on either side.

Then they step back again, but they're still ready to catch her if she falls.  Two paces behind.  Muted voices and padded footsteps are quickly becoming the soundtrack of her life.
