Title: Hope
Challenge/Prompt: #149: Sinking
Original Fiction or Fanfiction: Original (Jade)
Characters/Pairings: Taran, Esvan
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Author's Notes: Jade is mine, raaar.

Esvan was most visibly divine on moonless nights. The starlight glow around him could be clearly seen then, and his people gave him the wide berth of awe.

Except one, who seemed to regard that divinity the way others regarded a campfire. Taran sat down a few feet from Esvan, and unbound his hair from the oku-topknot. Tired, drained.

Esvan understood the unspoken request. "Something weighs on you."

"Hope," Taran replied quietly. "Having hope is like sinking in wet sand, some nights."

Esvan studied the stars a while, and said, "I promise you that I will make an end, Hierai."
