Title: The Means
Challenge/Prompt: #81 Horror
Fanfiction: [Spooks]
Characters/Pairings: Danny Hunter
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I don’t own it, I just play with it.
Summary: It’s different if you pull the trigger.
Author's Notes: Episode 3x05, Love and Death, had a big impact on me. I thought that Danny’s struggle to carry out his task was well acted and the difficulties he had in accepting what he had to do, going through with it and then having to live with himself afterwards was very moving. This is also the first thing I’ve written in over 6 months but I was inspired by the prompt and my recent viewing of the episode. Thanks, Sterling!

THE MEANS

He could sympathize with Zoe. He, too, felt sick to his stomach, if for completely different reasons. This wasn’t what they'd signed up for, at least not for this particular mission. Of course their jobs came with the understanding that lives might be lost in the line of duty, but this was different.

This was murder.

He may not have to hear his victim plead for mercy and there would be no messy aftermath with the tools he’d been given. Still, it would torture him regardless, the cries of a dead man echoing in his dreams for years to come.
