Disclaimer: Terry Pratchett is the genius that created the Discworld. I hope he won't mind me borrowing two of his chars for this little drabble of fanfiction.
Summary: It's Open Day at the Watch house.

Commander Vimes of the Watch stood on the landing and glared at everyone who tried to get past him. They all retreated back down the stairs.

"Just remind me why we're having an Open Day, Captain?" Vimes called out to Carrot as the young man cheerfully came up the stairs.

"Improving people's relations, Sir."

Vimes sighed. He should never have let Carrot talk him into this. He looked at the growing pile of items his men were taking off the leaving visitors. "We should arrest half of them for stealing. Since when does Open Day mean 'grab all you can'?"

Summary: There are places even the guard won't go to.
Author's Notes: The Shades are the oldest part of the city of Ankh-Morpork. It's a highly dangerous place, even for members of the Watch.
This is my first attempt at writing Discworld fic. Hope it's not too far off. ^_^

The Chase

Nobby chased after the burglar, skidding through dark alleys before stopping abrubtly. Fred Colon arrived a long moment after him, wheezing heavily.

The burglar was watching them with a triumphant grin from just inside the Shades. His grin turned into a mask of horror when two members of the burglar's guild stepped from the shadows.

Nobby looked at them for a moment, then turned to Sgt. Colon. "We'll leave him to the guild, right Sarge? With him havin' no licence..."

Colon nodded. "Of course. Getting one of them Troll guys here to the Shades would take too long anyway."
