"There's a map on your skin," The oracle says. Her fingers trace the aftermath of stray bullets and lit cigarettes and inkstained needles. "I want to read it. Everywhere you've been. Everything you carry."

"Why?" The soldier asks, inhales slow then sharp as the oracle's lips find her palm. Her other hand twitches, bandaged and bloody. Phantom pain for a phantom weapon, paranoia digging into her bones. "I'm still on-mission..."

"Mission's scrubbed, you're in the dark. But I need you alive. I want you alive."

"Why?" Her voice is brittle, hollow.

"...sentimental reasons," the oracle says, leaning in, murmuring nothings.

Title: Memory
Challenge/Prompt: #160: Scar.
Original Fiction or Fanfiction: Original (Andeliin)
Characters/Pairings: Kickback
Rating: G
Warnings: none

There was a bed, and a house - a big one, a mansion - and servants to keep it clean, but he'd never really gotten the hang of houses. They were part of a life that, now, only surfaced occasionally, in brief flashes on the edge of waking. He slept, for preference, on rooftops, in the sun, on the drier layers.

Memory, now, was in scars. Knives, broken bottles, bullets, a few arrows. More than most could survive, but the Lodger skewed odds in his favor. Brief flashes of fights long gone, brushing against skin torn and mended twice over.
